Christ Alone Unknown
The world I thought belonged to me,
Goods, gold and people, land and sea;
Wherever I walked beneath God's sky,
In those old days, my word was "I".
As time went by, I came to see
A cross where Christ had died for me;
I bowed my head, tears filled my eyes
I claimed salvation for my prize.
Years passed, there flashed my pathway near,
The fragments of a vision dear;
My former word no more sufficed
And what I said was, "I and Christ".
Years past; my prideful heart grew weak.
With sins foul odor my soul did reek,
Once more my eyes were filled with tears;
God forgave my sins, casting out my fears.
I did it all and thought I’d found
My hallowed place; My holy ground.
But, Oh, the more I looked on Him,
His glory grew, while mine grew dim
I shrank so small, He towered so high,
All I dared say was, "Christ and I".
I did it all and thought I’d found
My hallowed place; My holy ground.
Surely now my life will be
Sin free, and wrapped in purity.
I’d teach a class, in choir I’d sing
Why, I would do the Christian thing.
I did it all and thought I’d found
My hallowed place; My holy ground.
Years more, the vision held its place,
And looked me steadily in the face;
I speak now in humble tone
And what I say is "Christ Alone!"
Christ did it all and now I’d found
My hallowed place; His Holy ground.
